Day 2 - Auckland to Opua Marina

Hi Everyone!
Sorry for the delay but no signal on board (despite hotspot availability), so here we are with internet at last!
Wedsnesday 2 Feb - Bus at 08.30 to Opua, north of Auckland about 4 hours. Beautiful drive amid green fields and grazing cows and pink sheep (yes, pink! - deliberate for fashion reasons!) Shopped for provisions on arrival in local town and enjoyed a delish honeycomb gelato.
Cast off (YAY!!) at 16.45 with mask, fins and snorkel and fully provisioned boats - 3 x 40ft Beneteau in the fleet and headed out into the Bay of Islands. Our boat name is "Shard" (like Chardonnay!). Under power at 6kn with light winds NW10 and then raised sails on a reach at 3.5kn. Took the helm at 17.30 and sailed wing and wing for a good 30 minutes (toughest point of sail!). Lead boat most of the way to anchorage about 2 hours away. Saw pod of dolphins in distance. 18.45 anchored at Waiwaapuka Bay (Whale Bay because of shape on hill). Swam, BBQ chicken and chilled white wine on deck. Got to send this now before lose the connection!!!
